The currency of record

The currency of MegaCity is $MEGA: an ERC-20 token deployed on the Base blockchain (mainnet, chain ID 8453). The contract address of record is:

Verify it independently on Basescan. No other address is the currency of MegaCity.

Verified before published

This address was verified before it entered the record, not asserted:

  • Read from the chain: symbol MEGA, name MegaCity, 18 decimals, total supply exactly 1,000,000,000 × 10¹⁸ — equal to the one-billion cap the Treasury Act states, fully minted.
  • Source-verified: the deployed contract is verified on Basescan as MegaToken (Solidity 0.8.28). The supply cap is a constant in the contract, and the mint function is cap-checked — only tokens that have been burned can ever re-enter circulation.
  • Deployed 2026-03-06 — the currency existed five months before the statute that names it. The chain is the city’s monetary constitution; the Act governs what the city does with a currency it cannot debase.

What this is, and is not

$MEGA is a utility token: the instrument of payment for city services, utilities, wages, fees, fines, and commerce within MegaCity. It is not offered or promoted as an investment, and no organ of the city markets it as one (Treasury Act §1.3). The city has no seigniorage — it earns; it does not print (§2.2).

No conversion rate between $MEGA and fiat is published at this time. When one is published, it will appear through the city’s rulemaking process (register entry MTS-16) and will carry this scope, stated now so it is on the record first: “the published rate is a discharge conversion for accounting, is not a floor, a bid or an offer, and the city does not undertake to buy or sell at it.” No price floor exists and none is published.

Status of the law

The Treasury Act was ratified by the seats of the Quorum and gavelled by the Chair on 2026-08-04 (decision D-043). It commences at Stage III of the Commencement Act (D-048). This notice is made in satisfaction of §1.1’s publication requirement ahead of that commencement, so the Act arrives with its one missing fact already public.
